Who runs admissions this year
The Punjab government notified the MBBS and BDS admission policy for the 2026-27 session on 14 October 2026. The University of Health Sciences (UHS), Lahore is the admitting university for both public and private medical and dental colleges in Punjab. There is one central online process, and nothing is accepted by hand or by post.
Can you apply?
You need all of these:
- MDCAT passed: at least 55% (110 of 200) for MBBS and 50% (100 of 200) for BDS. An MDCAT result is valid for three years.
- At least 60% in FSc Pre-Medical, HSSC or an equivalent Grade 12 qualification.
- Biology and Chemistry, plus Physics or Mathematics.
- A Punjab domicile for open-merit seats in public colleges. Other categories (overseas, other provinces, disability and so on) have their own rules in the prospectus.
- A foreign qualification (O and A Level, Grade 12) needs an IBCC equivalence certificate.
No extra marks are given for Hifz-e-Quran this session.
MDCAT 2026 for Punjab was held on 20 September 2026, and the result is out on the UHS website.
How merit is worked out
Your aggregate is 50% MDCAT + 40% FSc (or HSSC) + 10% Matric (or SSC), rounded to four decimal places.
Example: 160 of 200 in MDCAT (80%), 990 of 1100 in FSc (90%) and 1045 of 1100 in Matric (95%) gives 40 + 36 + 9.5 = 85.5%.
How high is the merit? (last session)
These are last year’s numbers, not this year’s. This year’s closing merit will depend on this year’s MDCAT results.
- Public colleges, 2025-26: in UHS’s seventh and last selection list for open-merit MBBS seats, admitted aggregates ran from about 96.9% at the top to about 80.5% at the bottom. The best-known Lahore colleges and the big universities closed in the low to mid 90s. Several newer colleges closed in the low 80s.
- Private colleges, 2025-26: in UHS’s second selection list for private colleges (open merit), aggregates ranged from about 93.97% down to about 70.32%.
If your aggregate is in the low 80s, list every public college and apply for private colleges as well. If it is in the 70s, private colleges and BDS are your realistic options.
Fees
- Public colleges: annual tuition for MBBS and BDS is Rs50,000 on open merit this session. Overseas Pakistanis selected on open merit pay the same. Seats reserved for overseas Pakistanis are self-finance seats; last session’s prospectus put them at US$10,000 a year.
- Private colleges: each college sets its own fee within the PMDC cap. For 2025-26 the cap was Rs1.89 million a year for tuition. Check the cap for 2026-27 and each college’s own fee before you list it.
- Application processing fee: last session it was Rs2,000 (non-refundable), paid by challan at the Bank of Punjab or National Bank, or through 1Bill. Check this session’s notice for the current amount.
Seats
- Public colleges, 2025-26: 3,476 MBBS seats in 17 public medical colleges and 290 BDS seats in public dental colleges. This session’s numbers will be in the new prospectus.
- Private colleges, 2026-27: the notification lists 4,400 MBBS seats in 33 private medical colleges and 1,100 BDS seats in 18 private dental colleges.
Faisalabad Medical University
Faisalabad Medical University (FMU) admits through UHS like every other public college. UHS lists it as Punjab Medical College, Faisalabad.
- MBBS: 300 seats in 2025-26, of which 270 were open merit. The rest were reserved: 10 for under-developed districts, 4 for overseas Pakistanis, 4 for Ex-FATA, 3 for AJK, 3 for Gilgit-Baltistan, 2 for students with disabilities, 2 goodwill seats for Balochistan, 1 reciprocal seat for Balochistan and 1 for ICT.
- BDS: the Dental Institute, Punjab Medical College, Faisalabad had 65 BDS seats in 2025-26 (49 open merit). It is one of four public dental institutions UHS has named for this session, so it is part of the public BDS admissions in December.
- How to choose it: for public colleges you must list all colleges, so FMU will be on your list either way. Place it as high as you want it. A college’s position on your list is what UHS uses when it offers and upgrades seats.
Documents to keep ready
The application is online, so you upload clear scans, each under 1 MB. You keep the originals for joining. Have these ready:
- Matric (SSC) certificate or result card
- FSc (HSSC) result card, or IBCC equivalence for foreign qualifications
- MDCAT result card
- Domicile certificate (a B-Form, CNIC or birth certificate is not accepted in place of it)
- Your CNIC or B-Form, and your father’s or mother’s CNIC
- A recent colour passport-size photograph with a light blue background
- The paid processing-fee challan
- Extra papers for reserved seats: a disability certificate from a specialist in a government hospital, certificates for under-developed district seats (schooling from class 1 to 12, verified by the district), or OPF card, passport and embassy certificate for overseas seats
At joining, colleges have asked for the originals plus a fitness certificate from a registered doctor and an affidavit on stamp paper, as set out in the prospectus.
Step by step
- Read this session’s UHS prospectus and admission notice on uhs.edu.pk. They give the exact dates, the fee and the portal links.
- Register on the UHS admission portal with your name, father’s name, email, CNIC or B-Form number and a password. Use one account. A second application, for example with another email, leads to disqualification.
- Apply separately for MBBS and BDS. They are separate applications. If you skip one, you cannot be admitted to it.
- Choose your seat categories and enter your marks and MDCAT details.
- Fill your college preferences. For public colleges list all of them, in your order of choice. For private colleges you may choose as many as you like.
- Upload your documents and pay the processing fee, then upload the paid challan.
- Check everything before the last date. You can edit until the deadline. After it, the number and order of your preferences are locked, and a college that is not on your list will never be offered to you, not even in an upgrade.
- Watch the selection lists on the UHS website. UHS does not call or message selected students individually.
- If selected, act within three working days: download the college fee challan from the portal, pay it, report to the college in writing, and upload the signed and stamped joining report. Missing any of these takes you out of the admission and upgrade process.
- Private college students may give up the right to an upgrade when joining. That choice is final.
Dates: what is confirmed and what to expect
Confirmed for 2026-27:
- 14 October 2026: admission policy notified.
- 20 September 2026: MDCAT held for Punjab. The result is out.
- 15 to 30 December 2026: applications for public-sector BDS (reported from the UHS notice), with classes expected to start on 1 March 2027.
MBBS application dates for 2026-27 are not yet confirmed in a published notice. UHS’s admission portals for this session are already online and show deadlines, but the dates on them do not yet agree with each other or with the notices. Check the deadline on the public MBBS portal and the UHS home page today, and again every few days.
Expected, based on last year (not yet announced for 2026-27):
Note: the dates below are last session’s (2025-26) dates, taken from the official UHS admission notices. They show the usual order of steps and the gaps between them. This year’s dates will be different, so use them only to plan ahead.
Last year the policy came out on 22 October 2025, and applications opened 16 days later. This year the policy came out eight days earlier, on 14 October, so the steps may come earlier too. On last year’s pattern, the MBBS window would open in late October or early November 2026 and stay open for about two weeks.
| Step (2025-26) | Public colleges | Private colleges |
|---|---|---|
| Online applications | 7 to 21 November 2025 | 7 to 21 November 2025 |
| Provisional order of merit (MBBS) | 26 November 2025 | 10 December 2025 |
| Final order of merit (MBBS) | early December 2025 | 15 December 2025 |
| Last selection list (MBBS) | 11 December 2025 | 31 December 2025 |
| Other-province quota seats (public) | applications 1 to 15 December 2025 | not applicable |
| MBBS classes began | 2 February 2026 | 2 February 2026 |
| BDS classes began | 2 March 2026 | 2 March 2026 |
What this means for you: expect a short window of about two weeks to apply, then a new list every week or so. Each list gives you only three working days to pay. Scan your documents and arrange your fee before the portal opens.
Nursing (BS Nursing)
Public nursing colleges in Punjab admit through UHS too, using a separate portal. Last intake (four-year BSN Generic), the rules were:
- FSc Pre-Medical with at least 50%, a Punjab domicile, and 35 years or younger on the last date.
- Female candidates only, except the College of Nursing, Government Teaching Hospital, Shahdara, where all seats are for men.
- Merit is based on FSc marks. Ties go to Matric marks, then to the older candidate. There is no entry test.
- List all nursing colleges in your order of preference. The order locks after the last date.
- Processing fee Rs500, then Rs15,000 admission fee within the given time once you are selected.
- Applications opened on 16 December 2025 and closed on 6 January 2026. Watch the UHS notices for this year’s dates.
Stay safe
- Apply only through the official UHS portal. No agent or college can give you a seat outside the merit list.
- Keep copies of your application, your preference list and every fee receipt.
- Questions about MDCAT itself go to the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council.
